About us

Who are we ?
We are a couple of “older” bikers  who have taken to long distance motorcycle touring. We started our touring “career” very tentatively back in 2007 and have been gradually working up to more serious adventures since then.
What do we ride?
We started our touring career of a 2000 model 800cc twin Triumph Bonneville. After a few longish trips on the dear old Bonnie and covering over 13,000 Kms (all two up) we agreed we both liked long distance touring. That decision made, the next step was to trade up to a more serious touring bike.

Our 2000 Model Triumph Bonneville complete with our touring rig including leather panniers, Ventura Pack, Gel seat and miniscule “Bug Catcher”

After looking at a number of possibilities we settled on our candy red 2008 model Honda ST1300A touring bike.

Our 2008 Honda ST1300A which came fully set up for touring with panniers and top box.

Where have we been so far?
Some of the bigger tours we have done (all from our home in Sydney and return except the Italy tour) are :
Bruthen/Batemans Bay 5 days and 1800 Kms
Goondiwindi/Gloucester 5 Days and 2000 Kms
Snowy Mountains 4 Days and 1800 Kms
Bairnsdale/Cooma    5 Days and 2075 Kms
Canberra/Mudgee   6 Days and 2,200 Kms
Tuscany/Elba – Italy  7 Days and 1,400 Kms (on a hired BMW GS650)
Yarra Valley Victoria 10 days and 3,000 Kms (getting longer)
Mclaren Vale South Australia 17 Days and 4,500 Kms (and longer)
Tasmania 21 Days and 5600 Kms (and longer)
Middleton (Near Victor Harbour SA)  8 Days and 3,400 Kms (To attend the OzSToc National Rally)
Full circuit around Australia 90 days and 20,030 Kms (see our Blog of this trip)
Ballarat  Vic 6 days and 2,800kms (To attend the OzSToc National Rally)
Alice Springs and beyond a 30 day tour of the Red Centre  9000kms (see Blog)
Toowoomba 6 days and 2,300 kms (To attend the OzSToc National Rally)
Perth 21 days 10,010 Kms (To attend the OxSToc National Rally) (See Blog)
Victorian Ramble 11 days, 4,024Kms (see blog)

All up we have so far travelled around 95,000kms together on our bike tours 310 days.
Where do we stay?
We generally stay each night in local pubs or modest motels. We mostly eat in local Pubs or Clubs although we prepare our own food whenever possible (ie when there are cooking facilities available at our digs and provisions can be obtained locally).
What do we take?
We take only what we can fit into our panniers and top box. No trailers or extraneous tied on gear. We have a pannier inner bag each for our clothes and use the top box for our riding and general gear.
Our next challenge
Still thinking about it!

  1. Hi Guys.
Your blog is being read every day with interest. We are missing you at quartet and chorus practice. The chorus practice last night was a disgrace as the discipline really broke down. Too many people talking and not giving Peter their full attention. A prospective tenor arrived who can read music. Potential tenor leader. Don’t get too cooked in the WA sun.
    Come home safe

    • Thanks for your note Mal and Judy
We have been doing a lot of singing in our helmets so far and have worked out a lot of things for our two new comp songs. Looking forward to getting back and putting our ideas into practice.
      Cheers

  2. Ann and I were interested to read of your travels so far. Ann is now back home and very envious of those who are mobile. Glad to hear you are all safe and well and getting such great experiences Missed you guys at Mal’s last Saturday so First Edition had to stand in for HighJacked. As you say it seems your week has gone very quickly and before you know it you will be back at rehearsals.

    Keep safe and well

    • Hi Peter and Ann
Thanks for your comments. It is good to hear that Ann is now home and we all send her our best. We hope she will be able to get out and around shortly.

  3. What an adventurous pair!
No bowls clubs and CWA meetings for you guys.
Good luck with planning for the big ride.
